Artifacts Inspire: An Exhibition by Fiber Artists of Western Massachusetts
Friday, April 29, 12:15 p.m.
Simeon Strong House, 67 Amity Street, Amherst, MA
In May 2015 the Amherst Historical Society and Museum invited the nine members of Fiber Artists of Western MA to tour the collection and create pieces that reflected their curiosity about and fascination with what they saw. We are pleased to present Artifacts Inspire, an exhibition of the works created by the nine members of the group as the inaugural exhibition at the Strong House this year.
The diversity of pieces in the show includes both literal representations and more abstract musings about the items which the various artists chose to reflect upon. The artifacts are exhibited with the works they inspired. These inspired pieces represent the many media which these nine women explore in their work. Group members include Nina Campagnon, Sally Dillon, Rebecca Fricke, Martha May, Martha G. Robinson, Flo Rosenstock, Debby Slavitt, Margaret Stancer, and Nancy Young.
This Friday History Bites will feature presentations by artists Sally Dillon, Rebecca
Fricke and Flo Rosenstock. They will provide background on the Fiber Artists of Western MA and their own works included in the exhibition.
Join us with your lunch in hand. We will provide coffee, tea and cider for you as you listen to the presentations. The 30-minute program will begin promptly at 12:15 with seating and beverages ready just before noon. The lectures are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
We open for 2016 on April 29 at noon and will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon-4:00 pm into December. We are pleased to participate in the Amherst Art Walk for the rest of 2016. Our May 5th Art Walk event is the opening reception for Artifacts Inspire, the array of more than twenty fiber art works created by members of the group. We look forward to seeing you at the Simeon Strong House.
