Acousticca Returns to the Museum

The Band Acousticca will perform a free live concert, outdoors at the Amherst History Museum on Saturday, May 13, at 5PM. All are welcome!

Amherst History Museum Opens for Season

The 2023 Season at the Strong House brings a fresh look at our founder, Mabel Loomis Todd with an exhibit that explores Todd’s work as a nature writer, painter, conservationist, lecturer, and the editor of Emily Dickinson’s poetry. Visitors will have the opportunity for a before-and-after look at several of Todd’s botanical paintings that have not been on view in decades due to needed repairs.

Art on the Lawn at the Amherst History Museum takes place on the second Saturday of June, July, September and October; June 10, July 8, September 9 and October 14. Artists and crafters will be set up on the lawn of the museum from 11:00am to 3:00pm when the museum is open for visitors

Wachusett Reservoir

Work on the Wachusett Reservoir was completed in 1905 and the reservoir first filled in May 1908  At the time, it was the largest man-made reservoir in the world, supplying drinking water to Boston via the Sudbury River.

Old Growth Forest Walking Tour

Did you know that the Town of Amherst has an old growth forest in its midst? Did you know that this old growth forest is home to a Black Birch that is among the largest trees of that species in Massachusetts?

This October, the Amherst History Museum is offering two hikes to look at and talk about a local old growth forest and its trees. The hikes will take place on Sunday, October 1 and Sunday, October 22, 10am to noon. Each hike is strictly limited to 12 people and registration is required. The cost is $10.00 for Amherst History Museum members, $15.00 for non-members. Read more and register here.
