Amherst A to Z
Amherst A to Z, by Elizabeth M. Sharpe

Want to know where Amherst’s Cold War bunker is located? Or where the “curragh” district of Amherst was?

Or learn about a local factory that made “collapsing skirts!”

These are all entries under the letter “C” in a new, full-color, 80-page book, titled Amherst A to Z, written by Elizabeth Sharpe. The book is illustrated with pictures of artifacts from the Amherst History Museum, historic images from the Jones Library’s Special Collections, as well as photographs of our town and the folks who live here.

The writing, editing and picture research for this book have been donated. All profits from sales go to the Amherst Historical Society.

The New England Museum Assoc. NEMA has announced that Amherst A to Z 1759 -2009 by Elizabeth M. Sharpe, published by the Amherst Historical Society has won first place in its 2010 Publication Award Competition for books costing less than $10 to publish.

Amherst A to Z can be purchased at A.J. Hastings, Amherst Books and the Amherst History Museum. We are happy to ship the book to anywhere in the U.S. Please contact the museum at 413-256-0678 or info@amhersthistory.org to order your copy.
Cost: $19.95 plus tax and shipping and handling.

About the Museum

Visit the Amherst History Museum, located at the Simeon Strong House, 67 Amity St., Amherst MA. We held our first exhibition in 1899, received our charter in 1903, and are celebrating over 100 years of the Society’s ownership of the c.1759 Simeon Strong House.
